Christmas Eve - part 2

Christmas Eve was at our house this year! Some tweaks needed for future events, but it worked out well! I even found time to take some pictures. :)

Hanging out in Boulder waiting for Tiggy's recall work and oil change to be done. Catching up on 6 months' of reading. Hoping to have a better balance of work and leisure in 2019. :).

Snow! Only a teeny little bit, been a dry winter. But it was enough to awaken my internal husky, as you can tell from the walkway. (My hubby always jokes that I am part husky because I will run outside to take pictures as soon as I see it is snowing)

Some projects are meant to be...while hooking up the power for our solar system, Xcel noticed a wire had sunk, causing a short that had damaged insulation, necessitating a new meter block be installed. They powered off our 220 lines (we still have most of the power for the house, just without the oven, dryer, etc) Tim (electrician and carpet guy Rob Sanders introduced us to for the other house) is coming by in the morning to fix it. If it weren't for the solar, who knows how/when the problem would have been discovered.

Wonderful Christmas! Spending a quiet evening cleaning up from last night. I have the best help... And he's cute!

Muggins is having a sleepy Christmas....but he did get out of bed long enough to get his stocking.

Merry Christmas morning! Had a tasty breakfast at Rannae and Rob's house, followed by presents! Maddie declared that everyone had done well with presents this year.

As required by contract, providing evidence of the safety of the fancy chicken to Schlep Schlep... For those who don't know the story, our family used to do an ornament exchange. Rob was really pleased that I got the fancy chicken he had bought. I was not. The chicken met with an, um, unfortunate fatal accident. So, Rob promptly got me a second one...

Mike set up the living room with my tree decorating music (Handel's Messiah) . He is finishing wrapping presents while I finish the tree. Just about ready to host dinner tomorrow!

Cookie decorating yesterday! We got together with the Lyons and the Korosecs at Gwenn and Terry's house for cookie decorating fun and some presents for the kids. :) Part 1 pictures: getting cookie dough cut and ready for the oven.

Solstice party - part 2: Fire! After gifts and dinner, it was time to get the annual fire burning. It was smaller this year - the warmer weather brought a lot of wind.

Lights are finally on the tree! I have been moving slowly this year, even with my hubby's help. Decorating process starts today!

I never thought I'd says this, but we are actually considering becoming landlords. Got another low-ball offer on the house. It's actually worth more to us to retain it as an asset and rent it than to sell it for that price. Who'd a thought?

Went to PetSmart. Muggins made me promise to not get him a kitten for Christmas. It was harder than I thought! Anyone in need of a sweet cute kitten named Denny? He is at PetSmart in Wheat Ridge.

Quiet night at home - Broncos game and Christmas cards. Earlier today, we enjoyed watching the baby squirrels in the back yard.

This bowl came to our house at Thanksgiving.. . Seeking to return it to its owner. ( It is an awesome bowl and can have a happy home here if we can't find its owner)

Took a walk down memory lane after Debora's graduation.

It turns out the palm tree may be the one thing in the zoo that was still in stock at Lowe's. So, I bought a new one online and had it delivered to the store. (Now, I will have extra fronds and lights) clearance sale at Lowe's.....and then this happened. ;)

I have been looking after my grandpa Bill's plant, Charlie, temporarily. I had no idea it got flowers!

Had a lovely dinner at Mines this evening for the annual alumni association holiday party. Got to explore the new building a little more as well as the "shared road" next to it. I told Mike it didn't seem like the car that passed us was interested in sharing. ;)

Cute little chocolates arrived from Bart and Whitney, who installed our solar. Wine, chocolate, and sitting by the fireplace with my hubby....a perfect way to end a hard day off too many conversations about real estate. I wouldn't wish having to sell a house in anyone.

Thrilled with the way the work is turning out!

Slowly fussing with the zoo. I have to figure out all new spots for stuff. "The Tropics" is next on the list!

Sadly, no offer on the house - the only other thing they wanted was exterior access to the basement. But - that was the closest we have gotten yet! So, I am putting it in the win column. We are planning an open house next week and I am looking at taking it off the market for a while shortly after that if it doesn't sell. Better luck in 2019! In other news, after 17 days of this crud, I almost have my voice back thanks to the prednisone and uber cough syrup.

I am so happy to see this! This is the first time we have lived somewhere with an HOA and I had been worried they would hate the zoo. But our neighbors across the street also have a zoo! There is a polar bear and two penguins on a see-saw. :)

Work on the old house is coming along nicely! Hoping the people for tomorrow's showing are happy to see the changes. New tile in the main bathroom, new color for the yellow bathroom, finishing what was going to be the band room as a bedroom with in-floor heating, and redoing the closet in the 3rd bedroom so there is more space

Had fun judging posters at Physics Fest at Mines tonight! (They had to tell me about their posters, so I didn't have to talk much) also good to see Patrick Earhart!

Muggins has been super snuggly... We did a little shift change but it's not enough

Part 2 of 2: Ministry had an awesome show! They played their entire new album and then pretty much the contents of our favorite live album, "In Case you didn't feel like showing up"

Part 1 of 2: Luckily, I don't need to be able to talk to enjoy a concert! We have had tickets to go see Ministry at the Fillmore for some time. Founded in 1981, I had never seen them in concert... Until last night! The opening bands was called "Alien Weaponry". They made us feel old - the band formed in 2010 in New Zealand when they were 8 and 10. The name is because one if their favorite movies as kids was District 9. Really good musically, vocals and lyrics need more time to mature. Looking forward to seeing how they do in the coming years!

Sleep~ Glorious sleep! Feeling much better after getting a full night's sleep last night. Still can't talk, but that's ok. :)

Had to go pick out tile for the bathroom in our old house (few projects going on to broaden its appeal) and Mike reminded me it was that time of year again... Please welcome the newest member of the Christmas zoo! (Yes, another floor model purchase because they were out of stock already)

We are very excited to be the new owners of Terry and Gwenn Sanders' buffet! It's going to get a lot of use, starting with Thanksgiving! (Don't worry - went to the doctor this afternoon and he said I am well past being contagious)

Local peeps - does anyone have a twin bed or other kid stuff they aren't using? We need to stage a bedroom for an open house on December 1. Thanks!

We're stumped - - our old house is getting feedback that it needs too much work. We are not sure what folks are keying off of because feedback in September was it showed very well. Ideas are welcome! At this point, I am worried it won't sell without a massive price cut.

Home sick this afternoon. Mr. Snuggles is trying to provide therapy....even though I keep asking him to keep his distance so I don't get him sick.

Rough day, but a nice funeral service for Molly. Been keeping busy with other things... Thanks to my bro for helping with the TV and a Bed, Bath, and Beyond shopping trip. TV is up, new chairs are in the living room, and I found some cute stuff for Muggins' bathroom.

Sadness... We will miss Molly. :(. Lovely service tonight with a well-rounded tribute to her.

We tried a new restaurant last night - got a cute tea pot and heart-shaped rice. :)

Having some dinner by the fire....no heat in our house tonight because of the in-progress HVAC work - looking forward to having a new furnace for the winter! :) (And we have space heaters that I picked up from Gwenn Sanders on my way home)

We got quite a lecture yesterday from a Muggins at the top of the stairs. I hear it is quite rude to disappoint a cat who is expecting a cool dinner by feeding him a healthy kidney diet dinner.

Been busy! We significantly lowered the price on our old house with the hope of getting an offer soon. The real estate market seems to be softening. Spent the morning and part of the afternoon raking.... Got through about 2/3 of the yard. And then I put up some decorations!

Happy Halloween! It was a 2 party night -Thanks to Diana Mann and Nate for a fun halloween party! And the winner of best costume was way ahead of the competition.

Our upstairs resident made it to a second room! We have been working hard to convince him that it's a new study in a new house, so Cirrus' old rule of "no Muggins in the study" doesn't apply. :)

Busy day yesterday! It was a ""party" at the old house with my bro, my hubby, Pat and I working to get it ready for listing. And then a dinner party at the new house with the Loye family, Terry and Gwenn Sanders for splitting up the season tickets for the Nuggets. Many thanks to the Loyes, Gwenn, and Terry for bringing the food! All the while, Muggins has been loving sunbeaming in his new bedroom.

It's moving day! Thanks to Terry and Gwenn Sanders for keeping Muggins company at the new house!

We have wall materials! Many thanks to Terry for picking up the caps we needed while I was at work (and moving all those heavy blocks to the side yard). I have been working on my grant reviews for the Office of Economic Development and Mike has been working on his slides for a class tomorrow.... which means Muggins is resting soundly. Finally - a day with no packing!

Thursday is on its way and we are just about ready for the final move! Many thanks to my bro again today for helping move over some misc stuff. It's been a heck of a week for moving. There are a few things left to pack in the basement (mostly tools and electronics), we need to disassemble the exercise equipment, pack up the study, the clothes, and the kitchen. Pat is working on getting the MLS listing and brochures ready to put our house on the market this weekend. Muggins is not amused. I still worry about my little buddy, Rex. He was out in the rain to see me tonight. :(

*whew* another 2 runs with the Uhaul today (2nd one was less full because we got what we needed into the truck... :) ) plus Mike and Kenny brought over Mike's collection of wood and desk parts in Old Blue. Getting closer to done!

My brother really went to town on the basement today -wow!

surreal - 9 years ago, I was planning our big patio. And today... many thanks to @[100002119399665:2048:Mike Rawluk] for packing up the shed and wood pile! We have been very busy prepping for move part 2 of 3 on Saturday - Uhaul truck run for the basement, garage, and shed to get ready for the movers on Thursday the 11th.

Many thanks to Mike Rawluk for his help getting things to the basement in the new house and to Jessica Moffett for all the boxes! Buster is such a cute little guy! (My poor hubby was home packing and missed all the fun)

Fun day at the zoo! Pictures from feeding the hippo coming later. We had lunch at the zoo with Rannae Sanders Lyon, Maddie, and Valerie. We then wandered through some of the exhibits including Tropical Discovery. After that, it was hippo feeding time!

Glad to be home! We spent a week in the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, and Jackson. Lots of great things to see and time to relax! Now, we are home and back to the moving process. Many thanks to Allie and Maggie Ruddy for taking care of Muggins!

Saw Nine Inch Nails and Jesus and Mary Chain at Red Rocks last night with my hubby and Jarl Anderson. Good show! Sadly, I was quite under the weather for most of it and spent some time enjoying the live video feed in the visitor center. But I perked up just in time to see "Wish", which made it all worth while. :)

Many thanks to Diana Mann for helping us move today! Part 1 of 3 complete with the zoo, outdoor critters, stuff from the basement and stuff from the shed, including the snowblower and generator. *Whew*

We have been busy staging things for move part 1 of 3 on Sunday. I went to the house tonight to clean the fridge, freezer, some cabinets and closets. Brought a carload of stuff with me. For reasons unknown, there is a hair dresser sink in our basement. So, I figured it was a good spot for my eclectic collection. I also found clean dishes in the dishwasher. We are 2 for 2 on buying houses that came with clean dishes in the dishwasher. ;)

We always joke that we do things in 11s... We met March 11, 1993; started dating October 11, 1993; got married July 11, 1998; bought our first house right before our 5th anniversary; and the list goes on. So, Mike noted that it was only fitting that things worked out for our closing to be today. We have claimed the house as our own! There is coke and we played a game of 9-ball. :)

Mike was busy working on the wall while I was at work today. All laid out and straight. In other news, our oak tree is also straight and is well-aligned with the wall. ;)

Had fun last night with my hubby and Jarl at the Killing Joke concert, with opener "Pig", at the Oriental Theater. Great show! The 80's girl in me liked the silver fringe jacket the lead singer for Pig was wearing.

Mike did the trenching and tamping for the mini wall today. I had the easier job of gravel transport ;)

Craziness - things are moving fast! Closing on our new house is set for 8:30 am on Tuesday.

Had a lovely time at the Colorado Space Business Roundtable's annual party... and Mike bought me some prairie dog art!

My hands and back are glad Mike is on wall duty today, even if he doesn't want his picture taken.

Everything comes together so quickly! We are doing our first house showing ~ 3 pm today. Taking a break from the wall (my hands and back don't mind that ;) ) to clean up a bit. Mike laughed that I had a house showing anxiety dream last night.

Whew! Patio is finished. Plans are in work for the mini wall that goes next to it. Mike is going to measure out where the base goes with the laser level tonight. I almost stepped on a snake earlier, but he was ok. Just mad that I was going to step on him.

I am moving slowly.... Had to remove most of the patio I had built because it was crooked. Reinstalling it with Mike's guidewire, but I have found lots of alternative activities to take breaks with, like paying bills and laundry. ;). The thunderstorms enabled my procrastination yesterday; no such luck today.

Sun beaming is almost done for the day, but the nap carries on....

It was a party anyway! We tried to do a tour of the new house this morning, but the key was missing from the lockbox. Good to see everyone!

Had another lovely business trip to Chantilly, Virginia. Was gone for 3 nights, just got home. Had a fun dinner with Kristin Blais and enjoyed a little dose of humidity. (Literally, as compared to the dry air with wildfire smoke that we had before I left, my asthma was much happier with humidity!) Glad to be home!

News! Mike and I have been talking about possibly moving to get more entertaining space, etc. for about 10 years now, so it may come as a surprise that we are actually moving! Our offer on a house in Applewood was accepted this morning, and the closing is planned for October 1st. We are planning to put our beloved little house on the market after we move. :) We're going to miss the way we have gotten everything just so at our current house, but we are looking forward to hosting more and bigger gatherings! We are also looking forward to being closer to the area we have been gravitating toward over the last few years as the traffic and population in Golden have grown.

Working on the south patio today. It is lovely to finally see this project come together. The work is both going quickly and slowly.....

Hasd a wonderful time yesterday with my hubby, my bro Mike Rawluk, Jarl Anderson, and Kenny. It was a 6-hour metal marathon at Fiddlers Green marking Slayer's retirement. *Sniff* awesome show! Bands were: Napalm Death, Testament, Anthrax, Lamb of God, and of course, Slayer.

Got home just before the hail storm! Poor Muggins was under the bed.

Lovely cool weather this morning. Outside on the patio talking with my great aunt, guarded by our neighbor's cat, Rex.

Oof. Moved all .9 tons of sand into the patio area.... because I realized after the first truck load that I had better finish today, since I will not feel motivated to move tomorrow. Ow... I am out of practice on summer labor. But now the drip line is off the fence and in its proper place.

Got home from the board of directors meeting to find a lump-o-muggin in a sunbeam and that Mike and his dad had finished the tamping! Just picked up .6 ton of concrete sand for phase 2!

My hubby picked these up today for Mr. Muggins. The vet thinks the best we can do is to try to adjust his diet for his kidneys. We'll see if Muggins deems it edible ..... ;)

Look who was waiting for me when I got home! I am taking him to work.

Had a quick business trip to Dallas. went well! Glad to be back. And it's saying something to say that by Texan standards, I drive like a grandma.

Mike won first prize in the Colorado School of Mines CCAC (Colorado Center for Advanced Ceramics) conference's art contest today. We have talked about how his samples look like hotel art .... conference attendees agreed!

I hear Muggins is not thrilled with me calling him a Hawaiian Island ;) (Meow-y)

Not feeling quite as perky, but almost done removing rock from the mini wall area.

The patio effort continues.... We are going to do the tamping of the pink rock next Sunday. It's cooler today, so that is helping with the removal of the old gray rock. *Whew*. Mike came out to help verify the plans for next weekend.

Had a fun time at the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit today as part of my mom's birthday month celebration! We went to lunch at Red Robin and then to the museum. They had so many lovely artifacts in addition to pieces of the scrolls. All very well preserved! I have wanted to see the Dead Sea Scrolls for a while - expectations met! :)

Rough morning with Mr. Muggins. I brought him to the vet since I was worried he wasn't feeling well. Normally, he is very well behaved - such a gentleman! Not today. I got back a grumpy naked Muggins who hadn't had blood work done. So, Dr. Jeff is coming in special to see him and get his blood drawn. That means that, after a brief break at home, we are back at the vet's office....and I am in so much trouble!

Storm's rolling in! (I love wind and rain). Very much enjoyed watching the waves of grass in Tucker Gulch.

Had a lovely evening yesterday. We had dinner with Diana Mann and Nathan at the Ship Rock Grill, and then saw Yo Yo Ma live. He played 6 solo Bach suites alone and then an Aria with local music students. It was lovely and brought me back to when he came to the orchestra camp in Saratoga, New York in 1991. At that time, I had not heard of him, but all the cello players were on cloud 9 about getting a session with him. Since I played clarinet, I had a group session with my clarinet teacher's teacher, who was the first chair in the Philadelphia Philharmonic orchestra. I felt well monitored when he noted that Larry (Guy) had told him I would be there. All in all, a fantastic concert and a good time had by all. My hubby bought me a CD and a signed poster as souvenirs. :)

It's nice and cool this evening. Enjoying some post-work yard work... Mowed the lawn and am working to remove the old rock from where I want to build the southern mini wall.

Had such a lovely weekend! Great to see Terry and Gwenn Sanders, Kristi Crutchfield Beshears, Ann Deml and Aaron! Many thanks to Ann and Aaron for a wonderful dinner by their pond!

Laundry Cat had to battle a kitty's worst enemy - static electricity - for his place on the towel.

Sleepy little sun follower

It's great to be able to go to dinner at The Briarwood again! (Where we had our second date. Sadly, the restaurant where we had our first date has closed). We celebrated Mike's raise and my Raytheon program manager certification (level 4), which means I can now run contracts for them with annuat budgets up to $50M. :)

Now that the sand pile is almost gone, we can once again see how nice a design Mike did for tying the gutter into the French drain that runs to the maple tree in the front yard. It's like an archeological dig!

Mike thinks I got the fairy so I don't have to trim up the dead allium. ;). The peacock will go on the south wall when it is done. Plus one cute little addition (who is ok and flew off)

We think Muggins has been missing Cirrus today. :(

This will probably seem nonsensical to those who don't live in the desert, but for about 7 years, I have had a sand pile on a tarp at the north side of the house. I intended it for use on the south patio - you know, the one that is still a rock filled pit. How much had it rained lately? My sand pile finally succumbed to the storms. Spent a bit of time getting it cleaned up tonight, more to do this weekend. It was weird to wash out the tarp. I mean, I had gone full Alaska with that thing. The travertine underneath it just isn't as aged as everything around it. Weirdness.

A little bit of rain in Aurora today! Got home just fine and am drying out

We went to a memorial service this afternoon for Mike's cousin / Casey's sister Anna. She was a vibrant person who left this world too soon. I have other various pictures of her, but took these throwbacks with us from when she was part of our wedding. Casey did a wonderful job of MC'ing the memorial and provided a very sweet tribute to her.

Saw 2 deer in Tucker Gulch this evening! :)

I was busy hosting on Monday night - for something very important! Lots of people to congratulate Debora on her PhD and to wish she and Allan (and Daisy) save travels to Peru!
